Kinds of oil colours
Oil paint consists of pigment, fillers, binders, additives etc. Pigments are the carrier of the colour. Fillers give volume and thickness to the paint. Binders impart adhesion of the components. According to the binder there are several kinds of oil paints: ordinary/ made only with some of the quick-drying oils extracted from plants/, oil-resin paint /with adding turpentine-dammar or mastix varnish/, oil-wax paint and other.
Oil-resin paints are prepared by adding a certain amount of turpentine-dammar or turpentine-mastix varnish to the binder. This results into considerable advantages. These paints are less likely to turn yellow. The resin in their composition dries from bottom to top in the whole thickness of the layer. They are resistant to darkening and allow a richer expressiveness. With them the artist can work in semi-wet layers, without risking getting cracks or pealing off.
